Description

The purpose of this research is to transform raw health data potential into actionable insights diagnosis by applying the promising outcomes of Body Sensor Network (BSN) and State-of-Art Artificial Intelligence techniques. This helps the practitioners in early detection of impact of neurological disorder resulting research contribution to decrease the national disability rate of Pakistan. According to the National Demographics by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), 5th Population and Housing Census conducted in 1998 identified the population of Persons with Disabilities in Pakistan to be 2.38% of the entire population. However, as per the 6th Population and Housing Census of 2017, the percentage has gone down to less than only 0.48% with an increase of population in the country to 2.07% . To this edge, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) being National Statistical Organization has taken initiative of including Disability module in PSLM questionnaire and after getting approval to Technical Committee for Disability Module designed by Washington group was incorporated in PSLM District Level survey. As neural disability is a potentially visible event in Pakistan in different forms, therefore for its true coverage and representation, the usual sample size of PSLM survey i.e. 80,000 households has been enhanced to 195,000 households which will enable PBS to develop disability estimates at the district level with desired reliability. The field work of PSLM District Level Survey 2019-20 has been completed and results will be available by the end of January, 2021.

Key findings

This research project aims to develop an AI-powered Body Sensor Network system for early detection of neurological disorders in Pakistan, potentially reducing disability rates. It will provide more accurate and granular disability statistics at the district level, addressing discrepancies in previous census data. The findings are expected to contribute to improved diagnostic tools for healthcare practitioners and more effective methodologies for disability data collection, particularly in the context of COVID-19's impact on neurological health.
