Improving multi-actor cooperation to protect subsea infrastructure in the Republic of Ireland and United Kingdom

Project: Internally funded project

Project Details

Description

This project is a Partnership Development Award funded by Coventry University's ESRC Impact Acceleration Account.

The project will support more transparent and effective cooperation between public and private entities in the UK and Ireland involved in the development, maintenance, management and protection of subsea infrastructure. Outputs will include: (1) a peer reviewed journal article examining the policy and practice of cooperation between the UK and Ireland in relation to subsea infrastructure protection. (2) A Best Practice report on what works and what does not work, suggesting innovative approaches to facilitate sustainable cooperation. The Best Practice report will have applicability beyond the UK/ROI cases, particularly for other European states, and states with smaller navies. (3) A multi-year funding bid (target ESRC open call) to design and pilot the first UK-ROI Critical Maritime Infrastructure Protection network to facilitate enhanced cross-border cooperation in this area.
