ESRC IAA: Reclaiming Physical Space: Co-producing Active Futures with Digitally Isolated and Marginalised Youth

Project: Internally funded project

Project Details

Description

Many gender marginalised young people face exclusion, discomfort or a lack of belonging in these spaces, which can contribute to feeling isolated or disconnected. The purpose of the research is to better understand the experiences of gender marginalised young people around sport and physical activity to come up with ways these activities can be made safer, more inclusive, and affirming. The project involves trialling activities, reflecting on what feels supportive or challenging in both previous sport, physical activity, and movement experiences and current, with the aim of creating more inclusive and welcoming opportunities for young people in schools and community settings. Dr. Kayden J Schumacher, Research Fellow in the Centre for Global Learning at Coventry University is leading this research together with colleagues Dr. Siân Alsop and Prof. Michael Duncan.
