Community Oversight and Policing

Project: Internally funded project

Project Details

Description

Public confidence in policing in the UK has faced significant challenges in recent years, particularly in relation to the use of police powers such as stop and search and the use of force. In response, police forces have increasingly turned to community involvement as a strategy to rebuild trust and ensure accountability. One such approach is the establishment of community review panels, which consider police actions in relation to these contentious powers.

This project seeks to assess the operation of these review panels within selected police forces to understand their effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and explore how they can better contribute to public trust and police accountability.
