Description
Secured funding (€40,000) from NATO's Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme, convened and delivered jointly with the ‘Small Arms Survey’ a two–day expert Advanced Research Workshop entitled ‘Building trust to enhance maritime security’. The workshop was hosted in Geneva, Switzerland (10 - 11 Nov. 2014) and embraced high profile participants from prestigious institutions. Besides contributions from CTPSR and the Small Arms Survey, representatives from NATO and the EU external action service were also present, as were speakers from NMIOTC, NATO’s Defence College, U.S. Naval War College, Swedish National Defence College, Peace Research Institute in Frankfurt, Cardiff University, University of Athens, University of Hamburg, ‘One Earth Future Foundation’ in USA, RAND Europe and Chatham House.
Key findings
The edited volume Chapsos I. and Kitchen C. (eds) (2015) Strengthening Maritime Security through Cooperation, NATO Science for Peace and Security Series, Human and Societal Dynamics – Vol. 122, Amsterdam: IOS Press, funded by NATO SPS as well, was published following the event to disseminate the key findings
