Agroecological Urbanism in action: Building (peri)urban kitchens-farmers coalitions in Northern England

Project: Internally funded project

Project Details

Description

Urbanisation is at the root of food systems and land management models responsible for soil depletion, environmental degradation and socio-economic injustice. Addressing these failures, the ESRC- funded project “Urbanising in Place” (2018-2022) has conceptualised an alternative model of urbanisation called “Agroecological Urbanism”, and identified eight key areas needing social rearticulation, economic investment and policy change. IAA funds would be utilised to support knowledge translation in two of these areas, the community kitchen and fragmented peri-urban farmland. Working to strengthen uptake in the UK, this project will collaborate with trusted key NGOs with a track-record in policy influencing and building communities of practice (i.e. Sustain), to develop and deliver an ad-hoc impact and uptake strategy. We will consolidate and develop new relationships, targeting key strategic actors in the underserved North of England, and building regional coalitions for social change.
