Personal profile

Biography

I am currently pursing a PhD in the Centre for Global Learning, Education and Attainment. Before embarking on Doctoral research, I have read for two Masters qualifications, as well as having been fortunate enough to serve low socio-economic students in an impoverished South African schooling context for close to a decade. After having gained first hand experience of the gross inequalities and social stratfication endemic to the South African education context, I have developed a passion in areas of student wellbeing and attainment, social (in)justice and gender. Hence, my motivation for academic research stems from my personal and professional backgrounds, as it will equip me intellectually to formulate ideas and assumptions in order to better cater to the educational needs and wellbeing of the underserved girl child. Alongside my PhD, I have also collaborated on a research bid with Stellenbosch and Walter Sisulu universities, to mobilise and enhance female doctoral education in South Africa, which was successfully won. Moreover, I have also been fortunate enough to have been awarded a Leverhulme Scholarship, as well as a studentship from the Centre for Global Learning, Education and Attainment.
