Biography

Zahir has over 15 years of teaching and research experience in the field of electronic and communication engineering. He completed a PhD degree in Optical Wireless Communication from the University of Warwick in 2014. He was also awarded an MSc in Engineering by the Korean Advanced Institute of Technology (KAIST) in 2008 and BSc in Computer Engineering from American International University (AIUB), Bangladesh in 2004. Zahir has recently completed the PgCert in Academic Practise in Higher Education at Coventry University in 2016 and currently a fellow of HE.

Zahir joined Coventry University in March 2014 as an Assistant Lecturer and became a Lecturer in September 2015. He was then promoted to an Assistant Professor in August 2018. In his current role he is a Course Director for Computer Hardware and Software Engineering and link tutor for a partner institution in Malaysia. He also teaches subjects related to communication and electronics both in undergraduate and postgraduate level. Zahir also supervise research projects and currently acting as a co-supervisor for 4 PhD students.

Prior to Coventry, Zahir worked as a Cisco (CCNA) instructor from 2004-2006 in AIUB and also worked as a Lecturer at Southeast University Bangladesh from 2008-2009. During his time at KAIST, he was involved in an ITU-T standardization process developing G.8032 standard.

Research

Zahir's main research interest is optical wireless communication, Visible light communication, High speed network etc. Currently, he is  investigating different applications of Visible Light Communication (VLC) both in free space and underwater. His PhD research involved investigation of different features of underwater visible light communications. He has experience of ITU-T standardization process and contributed several drafts for ITU-T G.8032 standard during his  MSc study at KAIST. HE also filled two patents in the field.
