    Research Interests

    Dr Yuze Huang is focusing on using sensing and imaging techniques to develop tools for the control and optimisation of laser welding and laser metal additive manufacturing with the following major research interests:

    (1) Online monitoring of laser welding, laser cladding and laser metal additive manufacturing (L-DED, L-PBF)

    (2) Physics-informed modeling (machine learning and mechanistic models) for defects reduction in laser welding, cladding and laser metal additive manufacturing (L-DED, L-PBF)

    (3) Hybrid advanced manufacturing

    His research has wide applications in advanced manufacturing industry, such as predict and reduce defects before experiments, online monitoring for defects formation, reduction and elimination as well as the design and optimisation of mechanical properties for the manufactured parts.

    Worked with Prof Peter D. Lee on an Office of Naval Research (ONR) Grant N62909-19-1-2109, and the UK-EPSRC via MAPP: EPSRC Future Manufacturing Hub in Manufacture using Advanced Powder Processes (EP/P006566/1) on in situ monitoring of metal additive manufacturing by optical, infrared (IR) and synchrotron X-ray imaging.

    Worked with Prof Ehsan Toyserkani (MSAM Lab,, Prof Behrad Khamesee (Maglev Lab), SIEMENS and EOS on the development of accelerated additive manufacturing modelling, monitoring and levitated additive manufacturing.

    Research Assistant (Sep 2014 Apr 2019) University of Waterloo (Canada)

    Supervised by Prof Ehsan Toyserkani (MSAM Lab, and Prof Behrad Khamesee (Maglev Lab) on the design and development of advanced additive manufacturing with physics‐based process modelling, multi-objective optimisation, online monitoring and magnetic concentration and levitation.
