    Biography

    Yudhi holds a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from Brawijaya University, Indonesia. After graduating in 1996, he worked in the automotive industry with ISUZU Astra Motor Indonesia for five years, first as a Product Planner (1997-1999) and later as a Product Design Engineering Coordinator (1999-2002). He then moved to the next step of product development, and worked at an automotive tool manufacturing as a Tool and Die Design Section Head (2002-2008) at FUJI Technica Indonesia for more than 6 years.

    From 2003 to 2004, he acquired the skills of automotive dies design and manufacturing in FUJI Technica Inc., at Mishima, Japan, funded by the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan.

    In 2008-2009, Yudhi became a researcher with the Lancaster Product Development Unit, Lancaster University, UK. His research was part of the Rapid Manufacturing North West (RMNW) project funded by the European Union (EU) and the Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF). After completing the project, he gained his MSc in Engineering by Research.

    Transferring to Indonesia in 2009, Yudhi obtained a lectureship in the Mechanical Engineering Department of Polytechnic of Jakarta, Indonesia, along with some part-time teaching at Astra Manufacturing Polytechnic.

    He was awarded a full-funded research studentship from the Loughborough Design School, undertaking PhD research in December 2010 and completed in July 2016.

    From October 2014 to March 2015, he was a CAD tutor (SolidWorks modelling and simulation) and was responsible for delivering tutorials and problem-solving for BSc Product Design final year student projects at Nottingham Trent University.

    In June 2014, he was appointed as a Researcher at the Institute for Innovation in Sustainable Engineering (IISE), the University of Derby. His duties include developing new products, prototyping and testing, product and process improvement, and virtual reality modelling development for SMEs in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

    In May 2017, Yudhi joined High Temperature Research Centre, School of Metallurgy and Materials, College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, University of Birmingham, as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow working on advanced manufacturing in aerospace industries, a project funded by Rolls-Royce and the Higher Education Funding Council for England’s (HEFCE).

    I am now teaching CAD and Solid Mechanics at Aerospace Engineering, the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Automotive Engineering, Coventry University.

    In September 2022, I received my teaching qualification as an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) (ref. PR249793)
