Dr Vickie Presley is the Associate Head of Department for Psychological Therapies training programmes at CU Health & Care, Coventry University, and Course Director for the Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Vickie is a BABCP-accredited CBT therapist, supervisor and trainer. She has worked in psychological therapy services since 2004, spanning roles in the NHS, forensic services and private practice. She has worked at Coventry University since 2016, holding leadership responsibility for the CBT programme since 2017. She now holds overall responsibility for teams delivering both CBT and Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) training within the Psychological Therapies curriculum area.
Vickie has a special interest in the role of the ‘therapist self’ in psychotherapy, and the interplay of personal and professional development. As such, Vickie’s research activities to date have focussed on exploring the relationship between therapist schemas and therapeutic skills, outcomes and interpersonal transactions in CBT. Vickie’s research has been significant to the development of her own therapeutic and supervisory practice, as well as shaping approaches to teaching and learning at the university.
Vickie is passionate about sharing her research in ways that are accessible, experiential and reflective. As such, she has developed teaching sessions, webinars and presentations for national and international audiences. She has written a book chapter and specialist magazine articles for the CBT community, and actively volunteers her time to help develop national best practice guidance in the training and practice of CBT.
