Sukanlaya Sawang is an organisational psychologist and an active researcher with professional experience from Australia, Japan, Thailand and USA.  Sukanlaya worked at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand as a full time Psychology lecturer, consultant and trainer, before she moved to Australia.  Prior to joining QUT Business School in Brisbane, Sukanlaya was a project manager for the Organisational Safety and Wellbeing unit at Queensland Police Service in conjunction with Griffith University.  

Currently, Sukanlaya is a research Professor and Director of Research at the International Centre of Transformational Entrepreneurship, Coventry Business School, U.K.  Prior to joining Coventry University, Sukanlaya was a Reader/Associate Professor and Director of Research Internationalisation at University of Leicester, U.K.

Sukanlaya has also provided consulting services for small businesses in Asia and Australia; training for small businesses through The Asian Productivity Organization (a regional intergovernmental organisation which aims to build the sustainable socioeconomic development of Asia and the Pacific); developed academic courses, research projects and publications relating to small businesses; been invited to provide recommendations for the Innovation Policy Report, Department of Industry, Canberra. Sukanlaya received a number of awards – including the ‘Emerald Management Reviews Citation of Excellence’; the ‘Best Paper Awards’ from the Academy of Management (AOM); and the ‘AGSE International Entrepreneurship Research Exchange’ award.  The AOM award winning paper has been published in Technovation journal, one of the most highly regarded journals in innovation management, with a high impact factor.  She has been awarded a number of competitive grants such as the CRC Rail Innovation and the CRC Spatial Information, both as the chief investigator, to shape future research in the field.

Research Interests

Sukanlaya’s research primarily focuses on psychology aspects of small business/entrepreneurship and innovation management. She has an extensive array of quality research publications in this area (including cross-cultural studies), experience in managing large research grants, and a strong collaborative research background with scholars from Asia-Pacific countries.
