My background is in nursing and was employed by UHCW as a staff nurse for nearly 29 years. During this time I completed my City and Guilds 730 part 1 and 2 and the A1 award which enabled me to teach and assess nurses on the NVQ training course. I also assessed nurses on their mandatory training for CPR and Handling and Moving and observed and assessed junior nurses in their role on the haematology ward including administration of chemotherapy, venepuncture and cannulation.
I secured a secondment to teach and assess clinical skills at Coventry University at degree and diploma level which was extended from 2 to 4 years before commencing my current post as a lecturer and admissions tutor.
My commitment to this role has resulted in a robust selection process that has enabled carefully chosen candidates to be accepted for their nurse training and ensures the correct values are demonstrated from the outset. As a lecturer I ensure the students are supported and taught to a high standard; this level of devotion has been recognised with the nomination for Lecturer of the year with the Student Nursing Times, for which I have been shortlisted.
I have recently completed an MA in Educational Assessment at Warwick University and have been successful in securing registration with the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors.
