Biography
Shantanu Mullick is Assistant Professor of Marketing and Data Science in CBiS. Previously he was Assistant Professor in Marketing at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, and was also involved in education and research at JADS - a joint venture on data science between Tilburg University and Eindhoven University of Technology. He finished his PhD from ESSEC Business School in France, and prior to joining academia he was a brand manager in one of India’s largest pharmaceutical companies.
Shantanu’s research include topics related to food waste and sustainability, food, digital economy, big data, statistics & machine learning, and his recent projects have been funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research, SWIFT Institute as well as the industry.
His research has been published in both marketing and machine learning disciplines, including top marketing journals such as Industrial Marketing Management. Shantanu’s paper on using machine learning to reduce loss of airline baggage was the recipient of the best paper award in the 12th International Conference for Agents and Artificial Intelligence. He also supervises a number of doctoral students. Shantanu has collaborated with a number of companies and startups including Mars, Shurgard, Connecterra and Shoeby.
In addition, Shantanu also supports the enrichment of teaching with research by writing case studies based on his own research. He also supervises a number of PGR students.
Vision Statement
In my research, I work on topics related to sustainability and the digital economy using big data and cutting edge statistical methods.
My current research priorities include:
- Studying was to reduce food waste, with a particular focus at the retailer and at the household level
Study questions related to user generated content in the digital economy, such as influencers
