    Personal profile

    Biography

    Salem holds both academic and professional experience. Prior to his appointment at Coventry University (in 2016), he worked for four years at Durham University Business School and the University of Lincoln. As an Assistant Professor in Accounting at Coventry Business School, Salem is delivering different accounting modules for undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as supervising dissertations for both levels. The modules he has experience delivering include: Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Taxation, Financial Analysis, Business Law, Corporate Governance, Special Studies in Accounting & Finance, and Accounting for Business.

    In terms of teaching qualifications, Salem is a Senior Fellow at the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), and holds PG Certificate in Academic Practice in Higher Education. He is also a Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE) from the UK Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS).

    Moreover, Salem has four years of professional experience as a Tax Officer at the Jordanian Tax department (2007-2011).

    Leadership role

    Salem works as 'Curriculum Internationalization Lead' since August 2018 where he supports the Associate Head of School (Global Engagement) in ensuring the implementation of the Faculty's Internationalisation Strategy in line with the University Corporate Plan. In this role, Salem creates connections and liaise with partner universities across the globe in order to provide students with an opportunity to interact with international students as well as industry professionals. This essentially contributes to students' intercultural competences and employabilitity at an international scale.

    Research interests

    Salem's research interests centred around the below key areas:

    • Corporate Governance, including sub-areas like board of directors, audit committees, gender diversity, and ownership structure.
    • Audit Quality
    • Top Management Team's (TMT) Social and Human Capital
    • R&D investments

    Salem's publications appear in high-profile journals such as The British Accounting Review; Corporate Governance; and Journal of International Accounting, Auditing, and Taxation.

    Beyond publications, Salem's contribution to research community is evident through mentoring colleagues, working as a reviewer for different academic journals, taking part in conferences, and delivering research seminars at other Universities.
