Biography
With articles in world-leading academic and practitioners' publications and for practitioners' global teaching and speaking engagements, I am an accomplished academic with a research focus on board diversity, women on boards, board effectiveness and corporate governance, and gender-based discrimination in board appointments. I routinely present my research at international conferences, including BAM, EURAM, EGOS and GWO. I have won internal and external research grants and work with international partners for board research.
I am an Assitant Professor (Research) at the Centre for Financial and Corporate Integrity (CFCI), Coventry University, supervising PhD studies for part-time and full-time researchers. In a quality assurance role, I am also the Academic Conduct Officer for research at Coventry University. Additionally, I am an external examiner for the University of Salford, Manchester and for St Mary's University, Twickenham, London.
Previously, I led the MBA programme at Coventry University for two years, bringing in a 10-fold rise in student numbers and significantly improving the student experience. I am passionate about mentoring and coaching peers to support their professional development. I actively facilitate our students' opportunities to network with industry stalwarts for enhanced employability and learning.
Having 20+ years of industry experience in middle and senior management roles, including 8 years as the CFO in the largest public sector undertaking in the telecommunications sector, I bring a bouquet of leadership and cross-cultural and multi-market experience to academia. In my leadership role in industry, I led large teams (500+), participated in high-level tender evaluation and negotiation committees, and led arbitration panels for the organisation.
I hold a PhD in Corporate Governance and have an MA in Medieval History (with a Silver Medal) and a BSc in Mathematics (First Class). Also, I am a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, a Chartered Management and Business Educator and a member of Women on Boards charity. I am also a member of the Equality Diversity and Inclusion working group in the Faculty of Business and Law (Coventry University).
I love reading, travelling, and taking long walks and drives. I sponsor a girl child through a well-known charity, SOS. I am fluent in Hindi and English and have elementary knowledge of Spanish.
