Biography

Dr. Rebecca Grant is an Assistant Professor of Human Factors and the Course Director for an MSc in Human Factors in Aviation - a part time, distance learning master's course aimed at industry professionals. Currently Rebecca divides her time between human factors and applied psychology teaching and research. Rebecca is a registered Occupational Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council, a Graduate Member of the Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors and a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society.

In her work, Rebecca aims to take an integrated human factors approach (considering design, personnel, training, health and safety, environmental, and organisational issues) in order to improve usability, effectiveness and safety.

Rebecca’s main research area involves the human factors aspects of aircraft cabin and passenger safety, with particular research interests in cabin design, passenger behaviour, emergency evacuation, cabin crew operations and passenger safety information. Rebecca has been involved in projects commissioned by UK, European and several international clients, including major aircraft manufacturers, regulators and operators. Current research includes passenger and cabin crew attitudes towards single pilot commercial operations and perceptions of flying during and after the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, Rebecca is currently involved in collaborative research with another university into the human factors issues impacting students undertaking commercial flying training simultaneously with an undergraduate degree in aviation (collegiate aviation).  

Prior to joining Coventry University, Rebecca was a Senior Lecturer and postgraduate Course Director at another UK university, where she led the research activities in the human factors aspects of aircraft cabin and passenger safety and made significant contributions to MSc programmes in human factors in aviation, ergonomics and safety, and applied psychology.
