    Personal profile

    Research Interests

I have many years of teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and currently research active and exploring ways to expand and grow in this area. I strongly believe in enriching the student experience by adopting a holistic approach to teaching and learning, where experiential learning and research plays a pivotal role. Project/Problem based learning has a huge role to play in delivering Aerospace Curriculum.

Over the last 12 years I have built up my research interests in the area of Autonomous Systems, presently member of the Committee of the IMechE, which oversees a UAS competition in the UK.   Application of control theory to UAS applications is the principal focus of research, and will take on research in the conventional control and aircraft design.  I am Involved in the following areas of Research:

    • Implementation of a modified robust Kalman Filter for UAV flight control applications on DSP.
    • Propeller trailing edge noise reduction via the aid of serrated geometries for UAV Applications
    • Active configurable hybrid capacitor as energy storage element for Unmanned Aircraft Systems
    • Extreme Performance of Sniper Bullets, improved control by improving the manufacturing techniques. (Aerodynamics, and 6DOF RBD simulations and Accuracy Predictions
    • Vertical and Horizontal Wind Turbines

The future of aviation is Autonomous Unmanned Systems, and the global market in this arena is likely to outgrow the conventional aerospace market by 2021.  With such high stakes, the autonomous Unmanned systems research has to be the future, this research needs multi-disciplinary input, i.e., synergy between, propulsion, structure, avionics, control, guidance, decision making, sensor data fusion, telemetry to name a few.
