Dr Kassem is an academic with twelve years of teaching experience in Higher Education and is currently a Senior Lecturer at Coventry University. Her areas of expertise are in Counter Fraud and Financial Crimes, Corporate Governance, Risk Assessment and Risk Management, and Audit. Rasha embeds counter fraud education in all her modules to raise fraud awareness and to help her students pursue a career in fraud examination, detection and prevention. Rasha is also a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and serves on the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Advisory Council, where she reviews the quality of educational materials related to the prevention, detection and investigation of fraud. She delivers CPE sessions and seminars at the ACFE Chapter in the UK and has been a member at the ACFE since 2010. The aim of the ACFE and its members is to reduce business fraud worldwide and inspire public confidence in the integrity and objectivity within the profession. Membership at the ACFE provides Dr Kassem with access to an unlimited amount of interactive anti-fraud learning materials that helps in making her teaching very interactive and engaging. CFEs are trained to identify the warning signs and red flags that indicate evidence of fraud and fraud risk. CFEs have a unique set of skills that are not found in any other career field or discipline as they combine knowledge of complex financial transactions with an understanding of methods, law, and how to resolve allegations of fraud.

Rasha has authored numerous publications on audit and anti-fraud topics including but not limited to the psychology of fraud, fraud risk assessment, corruption and bribery, financial reporting fraud, asset misappropriation, and the assessment of management integrity. She is particularly interested in counter fraud research that helps businesses, auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders reduce the risk of fraud. Her doctoral research explored the motivations behind management fraud and their impact on the financial statements. She has developed several practical guides that could help external auditors and audit regulators in fraud risk assessment and mitigation. Prior to joining Coventry University, Rasha has acted as a fraud training director at the CFE Chapter of Egypt for two years and was invited several times to speak at counter fraud international conferences organised by the ACFE and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) in London. She has also reviewed manuscripts in Fraud, Governance, Auditing, and Business Ethics for several international peer-reviewed academic journals. Dr Kassem is a member at professional bodies like the ICAEW, AICPA, and ACFE, and continuously seeks to enhance and foster the University’s relationship with professional bodies and Business partners.
