Research Interests

My research focuses on leadership and management within an educational context. The objective is always to learn more about this area with a view to ensuring that those coming into the area are better supported. To help this process, I have co-authored the bestselling texbook 'The Trainee Teacher's Handbook' and my latest book, which looks at innovation within Higher Education, will be out later this year.

Key themes that run though my work are the importance of putting the people rather than the processes at the centre of education, the necessity of creating a culture in education that removes unnecessary barriers to learning and also how innovation can be used to motivate and to inspire both students and teaching.

The final research area of interest I have is improving the digital literacy of students and staff. There is sometimes an assumption that students have advanced digital literacy skills and whilst that may be true for some people, it is often not the case for everyone.
