Biography
Dr Pattanapong Tiwasing (Patt or Oak) is an Applied Economist and a Research Fellow, working in the Centre for Business in Society (CBiS). He holds a PhD in Agricultural and Applied Economics from Newcastle University in 2016. He is a bilingual academic, Thai and English, with breadth and depth of skills in data analysis and econometric modelling. Prior to this role, Pattanapong used to work as a Research Associate in Rural Enterprise at the Centre for Rural Economy (CRE) at Newcastle University. His research interests lie in Rural Development Economics, Small Business Economics, Rural Digital Economy, Online Business Networks, Social Media and SME performance, Spatial disparities in SME productivity, and Economics of Innovation. Since 2018, he has successfully secured funding from both national and international organisations such as ESRC Productivity Insights Network (PIN), Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), Department for Business, Energy and Industial Strategy (BEIS), Enterprise Research Centre (University of Warwick), Newton Fund Institutional Links, and Thai Royal Government. Working as a principal investigator and co-investigator on these project involved collaboration with both academics and government agencies.
As well as focusing on SMEs, Pattanapong is also interested in Food security, the relationship between micronutrient intake and labour productivity, Agricultural Economics, Food and Agricultural Marketing. Agricultural Household Model, Agriculture and Sustainability, and other Applied Economics.
Pattanapong used to work as a lecturer at Chandrakasem Rajabhat University in Bangkok, Thailand, teaching Agricultural Marketing and Agro-Industrial Management. He was also a researcher at the Thai Health Promotion Foundation linked to the Ministry of Public Health, Thailand.
