Project Title: Automation of Citation Screening using Natural Language Processing Techniques

The exponential growth of academic literature presents a significant challenge for researchers conducting systematic literature reviews (SLRs). Traditionally, the citation screening process in SLRs is labor-intensive, prone to human error, and influenced by reviewer bias. This project focuses on developing automated citation screening (ACS) systems using natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning techniques to streamline this process. By creating Gold standard datasets that incorporate systematic review titles and inclusion criteria, the research aims to train models to accurately screen citations across diverse topics. This approach not only reduces the time, cost, and human resources needed but also ensures greater accuracy and consistency in SLRs. The project addresses the issue of zero annotations and supports more efficient, reliable evidence-based decision-making. By optimizing the systematic review process, this research will enhance the ability of scholars to navigate vast amounts of academic literature, ensuring that reviews remain robust, up-to-date, and relevant in a rapidly evolving knowledge landscape.
