Biography

Dr Al Qubeissi is Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, member of the Universities Internal Combustion Engine Group (UnICEG), Chartered Engineer MIMechE, a member of the International Association of Engineers (IAENG) – Society of Mechanical Engineering (ISME), Associate Editor of Alexandria Engineering Journal, Research Associate of the Institute for Future Transport and Cities, Senior Lecturer in Thermo-fluids, and Course Director for Master of Engineering (MEng) programmes, including mechanical, automotive and motorsport courses, at Coventry University. His latest PhD study was conducted on mathematical modelling of pre-combustion processes including multicomponent fuel droplets, supervised by Professor Sergei S. Sazhin and Professor Morgan R. Heikal at the Advance Engineering Centre, Sir Harry Ricardo Laboratories, University of Brighton (2012-2015). Prior to that, he conducted PhD work on CFD development of conjugate heat transfer in rotating discs-cavities of gas turbine engines, supervised by Professor Peter Childs and Dr Chris Long at the University of Sussex (2008 - 2012).

Dr Al Qubeissi is experienced in computational thermo-fluid systems. His main relevant research experience includes development of mathematical models for processes preceding/exceeding the onset of combustion (atomization, heating, evaporation and ignition of multi-component and blended fuels) and other broad range of engineering applications (e.g. IC engines, PV/T systems, Battery thermal management, Thermal fatigue, Gas-turbine engines). His research efforts have been disseminated via about 100 research outputs in internationally refereed journal articles, conference proceedings and monographs. Since starting his career at CU in 2015, Dr Al Qubeissi has been involved in project supervisions of above 80 UG/PG students, including 4 PhD students. Prior to that, he was a Lecturer in Engineering at the University of Brighton, UK, and research participant in INTERREG E3C3 project (€3.5 million).

  • Coordinator of a CU funded research project, entitled "Blended fuel droplet heating evaporation and ignition", with £90k funding in the form of a PhD studentship (Feb 2017 - Sep 2020).
  • Chair of project titled Low cost filtered drinking water in the areas of struggle in Pakistan, in an Innovate UK funded programme of 'GCRF demonstrate impact in meeting the sustainable development goals: phase 1' (April 2020 - Jan 2021).
  • Coordinator of E+ Key Action 107, 2018, International Credit Mobility with £49k funding, Grant Ref No. 2018-1-UK01-KA107-047386 (Aug 2018 - Jul 2021).
  • Joint winner of an ECR funding on 'Hydrogen Production and storage' project, 2017-2019. An in-house built testing facility for the development of an on-board hydrogen delivery system, with £59k funding. Grant Ref. ECR201617.

  • 2010 Award winner, by UNLTD, as a social entrepreneur for establishing a community development project 'NETWORKING', in which ethnic minorities were successfully encouraged to integrate into society and enrol into higher education.
  • Recipient of UK-CARA Research Award with a value of £8.7k for his doctoral research project 'Development of a conjugate heat transfer solver', 2011.
  • Participant in Energy Efficiency and Environment: a Cross-Channel Cluster (E3C3) with €3.5m funding (March 2013 - March 2015).
