Dr Al Qubeissi is a Chartered Engineer MIMechE, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a member of the Universities Internal Combustion Engine Group (UnICEG), a member of the International Association of Engineers (IAENG) – Society of Mechanical Engineering (ISME), a member of the Institute for Future Transport and Cities, Senior Lecturer in Thermo-fluid Mechanics, and Course Director for Master of Engineering (MEng) programmes, including mechanical, automotive and motorsport courses, at Coventry University.

Dr Qubeissi is experienced with computational thermo-fluid mechanics. His main relevant research experience includes the development of mathematical models for processes preceding/exceeding the onset of combustion (atomization, heating, evaporation and ignition of multi-component and blended fuels) and their implementation into CFD codes for a broad range of applications. His research efforts have resulted in dissemination of above 50 research outputs in high impact refereed journals, conference proceedings and monographs. Since starting his career at CU in 2015, Dr al Qubeissi has been involved in project supervisions of above 70 UG/PG students, including 4 PhD students.


Projects and activities

  • Coordinator of a CU funded research project, entitled "Blended fuel droplet heating evaporation and ignition", with £90k funding in the form of a PhD studentship.

  • Co-I and Chair of project titled Low cost filtered drinking water in the areas of struggle in Pakistan, in an Innovate UK funded programme of 'GCRF demonstrate impact in meeting the sustainable development goals: phase 1'.

  • Coordinator of E+ Key Action 107, 2018, International Credit Mobility with £49k funding, Grant Ref No. 2018-1-UK01-KA107-047386.

  • Joint winner of an ECR funding on 'Hydrogen Production and storage' project, 2017-2019. An in-house built testing facility for the development of an on-board hydrogen delivery system, with £59k funding. Grant Ref. ECR201617.

  • Coordinator of E+ KA107 Round 2 2016 Grant, 2017. The HE mobility between Programme and Partner Countries, International Credit Mobility, Ref No. 2016-2-UK01-KA107-034987.

  • 2010 Award winner, by UNLTD, as a social entrepreneur for establishing a community development project 'NETWORKING', in which ethnic minorities were successfully encouraged to integrate into society and enrol into higher education.

  • In 2009, Dr al Qubeissi received a UK-CARA Research Award with a value of £8.7k for his doctoral research project 'Development of a conjugate heat transfer solver' at the University of Sussex.

  • Participant in Energy Efficiency and Environment: a Cross-Channel Cluster (E3C3) with €3.5m funding (March 2013 - March 2015).

  • A STEMNET Ambassador (2015-present), in which he delivers engineering knowledge to young people with the aim of raising their awareness of STEM subjects and associated real-life applications and career choices.
