I am most interested in investigating the physiology of skeletal muscle and the effects of physical exercise and nutritional interventions. My current research has focused on the effects of exercise and nutrition on skeletal muscle form and function and in the searching of strategies to improve health and athletic performance with a special focus on strength and power activities. In other words, I have focusing my research into making skeletal muscles stronger, bigger, faster, and more resistant to fatigue.
Skeletal muscle physiology; Nutritional supplementation; Ergogenic aids and sports performance; Resistance training; Muscle Strength.
I graduated in Physical Education and Sports at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) in 2006 at Vitoria, Brazil. At the same year, I moved to São Paulo to continue my education at the University of São Paulo and completed my MSc in Human Physiology, followed by my PhD at the same research laboratory, investigating aspects of skeletal muscle physiology. In 2010 I started as a Lecturer at the Centre of Physical Education and Sports, UFES. I have been involved in collaborative research with colleagues from different countries (e.g., Brazil, UK, USA, New Zealand and China) with studies on skeletal muscle physiology, resistance training and nutritional supplementation. Currently, I am an Associate Professor in the Research Centre for Physical Activity, Sport, and Exercise Science at Coventry University.
