I am most interested in investigating the physiology of skeletal muscle and sports performance. My current research has focused on the effects of exercise and nutrition interventions on skeletal muscle form and function and in the searching of strategies to improve athletic performance with a special focus on strength and power activities. In other words, I have focusing my research into making skeletal muscles stronger, bigger, faster and more resistant to fatigue.

I graduated in Physical Education and Sports at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) in 2006 at Vitoria, Brazil. At the same year, I moved to São Paulo to continue my education at the University of São Paulo and completed my MSc in Human Physiology, followed by my PhD at the same research laboratory, investigating aspects of skeletal muscle physiology. In 2010 I was hired as Lecturer in the Sports Department at the Centre of Physical Education and Sports, UFES. I have been involved in collaborative research with colleagues from different countries (i.e., Brazil, UK, USA, New Zealand and China) with studies on skeletal muscle physiology, resistance training and nutritional supplementation for performance enhancement. From June 2019 to June 2020 I stayed at Coventry University as a post-doctoral researcher and in 2021 I returned as Assistant Professor in Sport and Exercise Science, after 11 years working at UFES, Brazil.
