Biography

Kriti Bhargava received her Bachelor (Hons.) and Master in Technology Dual Degree from LNM Institute of Information Technology, India and PhD from Waterford Institute of Technology, Ireland, in 2014 and 2018 respectively. During her PhD, she worked on the SFI Precision Dairy project under the supervision of Dr. Stepan Ivanov and Prof. William Donnelly. Her thesis entitled ‘Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) Based Analytics for Precision Dairy Farming’ focused on the design of novel Fog Computing algorithms for sensor-based execution (sensor analytics) to provide real-time solutions for dairy farming applications. 

Since Dec 2018, Kriti has joined as a Research Fellow in the Centre for Fluid and Complex Systems at Coventry University. She is currently working on the EPSRC-funded Humanitarian Engineering and Energy for Displacement (HEED) project. 

PhD Project

- Dissertation: Wireless Sensor-based Data Analytics for Precision Farming
- Description : The work focused on the design of on-board intelligence for sensor devices in a cooperative Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). We designed analytic techniques based on ‘Edge Mining’ that are suitable for sensor-based execution, and allow for improved real-time responsiveness of WSN without relying on third-party resources such as cloud. The techniques make use of linear regression, decision-trees or histograms to represent sensor data as application-specific states that are, in turn, used to detect events in real-time. Given the resource-constrained nature of sensor devices, we further considered cooperation between co-located (on one node) and distributed (across nodes) analytic tasks to allow scaling of analysis within WSN for improved capability and to ensure resource management. We also explored the integration of WSN with cloud to allow for flexibility in sensor-based analytics using cloud-based machine learning such as Genetic Algorithms. The
performance of the proposed algorithms was validated using data collected from a WSN prototype in the context of Precision Farming and R-based analysis.
