Personal profile

In my role as the Head of School, I manage both staff and students in achieving our targets. I’m also responsible for driving change, growth and sustainability within the School in line with the University's Corporate Plan as well as its institutional strategies, policies and procedures. I began my academic career in 2001 at Lagos State University, Nigeria, after five years working in an accounting practice. Between 2003 and 2013, I held different academic positions including Principal Lecturer and the Director of Postgraduate Programmes in Accounting at De Montfort University, Leicester. During this period, I sat on the university's Research Degree Committee and Research Training Committee. I also taught different Accounting modules including Auditing and Financial Reporting and as a testimony to the quality of my teaching, I was shortlisted for the university’s Vice Chancellor Distinguished Teaching Award in 2011. I’m widely published in the fields of Auditing, Accountability, Governance and Ethics, and I currently supervise doctoral students within these research areas. I’m the Chair of Centre for African Resources Research and Development.

My research interests cover Accounting and Auditing; Accountability Governance and Ethics; and IT and Project Management. I am widely published in these fields and I serve on the Editorial Board of a number of Journals. One of my recent papers entitled “The role of Auditing in the Management of Corporate Fraud” published in Developments in Corporate Governance and Responsibility was selected as the Outstanding Author Contribution for the 2015 Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence. I’m a Principal Investigator on an Innovate UK/EPSRC funded project worth £800,000 on the deconstruction and recovery of information modelling (2016 - 2018).
