Personal profile

Research Interests

My research interests are in political geography and geopolitics. Specifically, I'm interested in how theories of new materialism develop our understanding of geopolitics. For my PhD, I examined how narcotics influenced diplomacy in the 20th Century. I am currently researching the geopolitics of adult cartoons (Archer and South Park).

I'm also interested in pedagogy. I’ve published on the role of graduate teaching assistants, student-staff partnerships and research-based education. I'm always looking to co-publish with students, so get in touch!

Biography

I studied BA Geography at the University of Exeter and graduated with first class honours in 2013. I graduated from UCL with distinction from MSc Globalisation in 2014 and a PhD in Political Geography in 2018.

I served as the postgraduate representative of the RGS-IBG Political Geographies Research Group in 2015. I've supervised an RGS-IBG fieldwork trip for A-level students and I also have mentored two students on the on the Learning and Leading Gap Scholar Scheme.

I completed an 5 month ESRC fellowship as a visiting scholar at the Kluge Center in the Library of Congress in Washington, DC in March of 2016. More information about that is available here. From March 26th - June 27th 2017, I was on an  ESRC funded Overseas Institutional Visit at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver.

I recently won a Provost's Teaching Award from UCL and was a Student Fellow at UCL's Arena Center.

I moved to Coventry University as an assistant lecturer in September of 2018.
