Biography
James Blundell is an Assistant Professor in Human Factors for Aviation at Coventry University. He received his PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Birmingham, UK in 2015. James has spent the last 4 years delivering teaching and research in human information processing (HIP), fatigue and psychological resilence at Coventry University. Many of his current research projects are being conducted in partnership with BAE Systems, focussing on the HIP evaluation of multimodal interfaces within simulator environments. This research forms part of Coventry University's involvement in the Innovate UK funded project - the Open Flight Deck project. James' extensive knowledge of physiological measures, particularly oculomotor functioning, accrued from his cognitive neuroscience background has served as a corner stone of these research endevours.
Further research collaborations with UK aviation industry has included the evaluation of the fatigue mitigation offered by modern fatigue risk management systems that are being deployed by airlines worldwide. James current research efforts are focussed on the psychological resilience of airline flight and cabin crews in the light of the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, research into the attitudes of passengers to flying in the current, and post-covid, pandemic environment is being explored.
