Dr. Fatemeh Pourhossein is an Assistant Professor in Applied Science and Biotechnology at the Centre for Health and Life Sciences. She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering–Biotechnology and has an interdisciplinary background in biotechnology, industrial engineering, and environmental science.

Her research focuses on sustainable bioprocessing and environmental biotechnology, particularly microbial metal recovery (bioleaching), waste valorisation, and circular economy solutions. She integrates microbiological and engineering approaches to develop eco-efficient processes for resource recovery from complex waste streams.

She has secured competitive research funding and collaborates with academic and industrial partners on applied biotechnology projects. Her work contributes to advancing sustainable technologies with real-world environmental and industrial impact.

She supervises postgraduate researchers and contributes to building interdisciplinary research capacity within the Centre, fostering collaboration across engineering, life sciences, and computational disciplines, with a strong emphasis on innovation, sustainability, and societal impact.
