Dr. Essam Abo-Serie obtained his BSc with honours in 1989 and MSc in 1995 from Cairo University, Mechanical Power Engineering. He completed his PhD from Imperial College London, Mechanical Engineering in 2004. His major study was focusing on fuel injection and spray characterization using computational and laser techniques.
He was a research assistant in City University London in 2002-2004. He then joined Engine Lab as postdoctoral fellow at Korea Advanced Institute Science and Technology, KAIST in South Korea 2004-2005. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Loughborough University, UK, 2006-2007. Then he was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at Coventry University in 2007. During his career he was involved in many research projects sponsored by Renault, Bosch, Siemens and Rolls-Royce. He carried out various consultancy work. Dr Abo-Serie has also worked in Cairo University and initiated and supervised Cairo University Formula Student Team in 2012 before moving to Mevlana University in Turkey as Associate Professor where he found the Mechanical Engineering Department. He has wide range of research activities in thermofluids applications both modelling and experimental. His expanded his publications from atomization and spray characterization from GDI injectors using laser techniques and CFD to various other thermofluids problems including ground vehicle aerodynamics, Turbochargers, burners, SPH and turbomachines. He used his knowledge in optics and laser techniques to develop an active optical vision system for seam tracking of robotic welding.
Dr Abo-Serie has over 60 international reviewed publications and two patents and he is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy in UK (FHEA) and a member of Institute of Physics IOP, Society of Automotive Engineers SAE, ILASS Europe, Egyptian society of Mechanical Engineers, Engineering Society of Mechanical Engineering ESME and a reviewer for different international journals.
