Personal profile

I am a doctoral candidate at the Centre of Business in Society (CBiS) under the Faculty of Business and Law (FBL). My research interests lie in areas such as self-directed learning, lifelong learning, continuous improvement, higher education, adult learning, organisational learning and learning organisations. Specifically, my current research explores the self-directed learning and the lifelong learning of academics within Universities and the wider Higher Education context across several countries. This builds on my interests and my past experiences with self-directed learning, lifelong learning, human resources (development), continuous professional development, continuous improvement as well as learning and teaching within Higher Education. I am very much passionate about self-directed learning, lifelong learning and continuous development.

I have a background in Management (specialising in International business as well as Hospitality and Tourism businesses). I also possess a background in teaching (specialising in Higher Education as well as Language Teaching). Prior to starting my PhD, I had previously completed my MSc in International Business Management at Coventry University, my PGCert Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at the University of London as well as my BA (Hons) Hospitality Business Management awarded by the University of Birmingham. In addition, I also possess a certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) and a European Certificate of Language Teaching to Adults (EUROLTA). I am an Associate Fellow to the Higher Education Academy (HEA). I am also a recipient of the University of London Worldwide Recognised Tutor Status.

Personally - I am a language enthusiast as well as being a multilingual. In addition to English, I speak several other languages such as Malay, Indonesian, Korean and Mandarin. I have an affiction towards language learning and language acquisition. I enjoy learning different languages and cultures where I have previously learnt French, Italian, Spanish, German, Arabic, Japanese, American Sign Language and British Sign Language.

I have taught in several contexts:

  1. Higher Education (face-to-face teaching) at Coventry University and the University of Warwick.
  2. Online contexts (on MS Teams, Zoom in combination with other online teaching aids).

I have also been involved in planning, preparing and implementing a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) programme within my lessons to foster cross-cultural awareness and understanding.

I have received high satisfaction rates and positive feedback on my teaching from my students.
