Personal profile


Eddie is currently a doctoral candidate at the Centre of Business in Society (CBiS) under the Faculty of Business and Law (FBL). His research interests lie in areas such as self-directed learning, lifelong learning, continuous improvement, higher education, adult learning, organisational learning and learning organisations. Specifically, his current research explores the self-directed learning and the lifelong learning of academics within Universities and the wider Higher Education context across several countries. This builds on his interests and past experiences with self-directed learning, lifelong learning, human resources (development), continuous professional development, continuous improvement as well as learning and teaching within Higher Education. He is very much passionate about self-directed learning, lifelong learning and continuous development.

Eddie has a background in Management (specialising in International business as well as Hospitality and Tourism businesses). He also possesses a background in teaching (specialising in Higher Education as well as Language Teaching). Prior to starting his PhD, he had previously completed his masters in International Business Management at Coventry University, a PGCert Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at the University of London as well as a BA (Hons) Hospitality Business Management awarded by the University of Birmingham. In addition, I also possess a certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) and a European Certificate of Language Teaching to Adults (EUROLTA). He is an Associate Fellow to the Higher Education Academy (HEA). He is also a recipient of the University of London Worldwide Recognised Tutor Status.


Eddie is a language enthusiast in addition to being a multilingual. In addition to English, he speaks several other languages such as Malay, Indonesian, Korean and Mandarin. He has an affection towards language learning and language acquisition. He enjoys learning different languages and cultures where he has previously learnt various languages such as French, Italian, Spanish, German, Arabic, Japanese, American Sign Language and British Sign Language. 


He has taught several modules throughout his career in several contexts within Higher Education - specifically through face-to-face teaching at Coventry University and at the University of Warwick. He has also had experiences in teaching in online contexts through platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom in combination with other teaching aids. Whilst teaching with Coventry University, he has also been involved in the planning, preparation and the implementation of a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) programme within his lessons in order to foster cross-cultural awareness and understanding. Throughout his teaching, he has received high satisfaction rates and positive feedback from the Module Evaluation Questionnaire administered by the Students Surveys team on his teaching from his students.

Eddie has many research interests. Currently, his research is mainly focused on lifelong learning, self-directedness and people development/human resources. He is especially interested in areas such as:

In addition to his main research areas/interests, during his free time - he enjoys researching about cultures, language learning, language teaching, language acquisition, language preservation, endangered languages and language extinction specifically within the Austronesian language group. He is also interested in the law, legal systems and policies.
