Personal profile
Research Interests
I am an historian of modern Britain. With a particular interest in intelligence and espionage history and the Home Front during the Second World War, my work has focussed on the dynamics of class and gender on secret organisations. My first book, The Hidden History of Bletchley Park, was published in 2015. My second book, a biography of John Cairncross, the "fifth man" of the Cambridge Ring of Five spy ring, was published in May 2019. I am currently writing a third book, under contract with McGill-Queen's University Press, examining memory, secrecy, mythologies and Bletchley Park.
Biography
I joined Coventry University in February 2017. I am an elected fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a member of the Social History Society.
