Dr Brendan Greaney, R.N., P.G. Dip, PGCE, M.A. PhD first registered as a general nurse in 1989 and worked in critical care, coronary care and cardiology, emergency medical admissions and cardiothoracic surgery in a number of hospitals across the Birmingham and Solihull area. Prior to coming to Coventry University, he was a Practice Development Charge Nurse at the Priory Hospital in Birmingham. Brendan is currently Course Director for the BSc(Hons) Professional Practice (General Pathway). Additionally Brendan teaches across a range of clinical modules as part of the BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing programme. He has a further role as Disability Learning Support Tutor within the Dept of Nursing, Midwifery & Health. This role involves support of students who declare a disability on entry to the academic programme or who develop a disability whilst on the programme. This involves close liaison with the Disabilities office to ensure the student with a disability receives continuous support during their time at university.
Brendan was formally link tutor to Hubei University of Science & Technology in Hubei Province, China which was part of a collaborative duel award undergraduate nursing programme. The link tutor role involved close collaboration between academic colleagues in China, teaching on the programme in China once a year as well as the co-ordination of sending colleagues from Coventry University to teach on this programme twice yearly. Brendan has also taught in Hong Kong as part of a collaborative partnership with Hong Kong Poytechnic University and the School for Higher & Professional Education
Additionally Brendan is currently Course Director for the BSc Nursing Studies (International) which is open to non-EU nurses who possess a Diploma in Nursing from their own country and who wish to top up to a BSc Nursing Studies.
He was appointed Faculty Lead for Disability & Learning Support for HLS in November 2019. Thsi role co-ordiantes disability and learning support fro students across the Faculty as well as leading on disability and learning support strategy and policy across the Faculty. This role is shared as a 0.4 post with his academic Assistant Professor post
Brendan is currently part of a supervisory team for a MRes student and a PhD student.
Brendan's main research interests include Dyslexia in Nursing, Online International Learning and Sepsis recognition by nurses and other Allied Healthcare Professionals and has presented internationally at a number of conferences on these subjects including Hong Kong, China and Canada.
Brendan is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Birmingham. The title of his thesis is 'Dyslexia in Nursing & Nurse Education - a case study supervised by Professor Mike McLinden and Dr. Maria Reraki
