    Personal profile

    Research Interests

My work in political agroecology sits at the intersection of political ecology, agroecology and science and technology studies.

    Vision Statement

In an academic landscape where agri-food research centres increasingly function as catalysts for corporate investment, I try to take seriously de Sousa Santos in his conviction that “there is no social justice without cógnitive justice.” How then can research contribute to reclaiming knowledge -that has been passed and constructed from generation to generation, often by word of mouth, stories and rituals – and that is often devalorized or appropriated to sustain the productive system of the knowledge economy?

    Biography

Before joining CAWR in April 2020, I was awarded a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship at the Science & Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University of Sussex. In that framework I was leading the Healing from Enclosureaction research project. The project developed a political agroecology approach to agrifood research and innovation in Belgium.

Prior to this fellowship, I worked as a post-doctoral researcher and facilitator of participatory action research in the Agroecology Labat the Free University Brussels. In earlier research at the University of Antwerp and Leuven, I focused on social innovation and territorial development. I have a background in Land- and Forest Engineering and in Regional Studies.

I thrive best in transdisciplinary environments. I am an active organizer in a number of food sovereignty & agroecology initiatives.
