Augustine has over 20 years’ experience that spans the petroleum industry, water industry and the academia. He is a chartered environmentalist, chartered water and environmental manager and currently an Associate Professor in Energy and Environment in the School of Energy, Construction and Environment. His research interest is focused on the following themes; water and wastewater treatment, oil/water separation and spill remediation, enhanced oil recovery, process safety, process engineering design and petroleum management. Prior to joining Coventry University, he was a process design engineer at Severn Trent Water where he was involved in several multi-million pounds’ capital and research projects including the £40M UK DEFRA National Demonstration Programme (NDP) for the removal of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in wastewater treatment plants in England and Wales. As part of the NDP, he was a co-investigator in the Severn Trent £3M Hallam Fields demonstration pilot plants for the removal of EDCs as well as the £2.7M EDCs monitoring in river catchments. He has also recently secured and leading a $2.4M World Bank Assissted Project on International Twinning assignment to conduct International Accreditation, Curriculum Adaptation and Training of faculties at Uganda Technical College Kichwamba in Oil & Gas related construction trades.

He also previously worked for Fugro Consultant, consulting for various multinational Oil & Gas companies in both the upstream and downstream sector. He led and carried out various quality and HSE compliance audits, oil spill monitoring, remediation and environmental studies for some of the largest oil & gas projects in West Africa onshore and offshore environments for Shell Petroleum, ExxonMobil, Addax Petroleum, ChevronTexaco, Total, ENI, Schlumberger, Oildata and ConocoPhillips etc.

Augustine is a reviewer for over a dozen journals including Water Research, Energies, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Chemosphere, Science of the Total Environment, Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering etc. He is also an Editorial Board Member of Journal of Environmental and Analytical Toxicology and Journal of Chemical, Environmental and Biological Engineering. To date, Augustine has over 50 academic publications including journals, conferences and book chapters.

    Vision Statement

The 2010 Deepwater Horizon Disaster was a reminder that despite the advances in technology in the exploration and production of oil and gas; there have not been significant improvements in the way we respond to oil spills. My vision is to work on the development of novel materials using facile methods and low cost inputs that can be applied for oil water separation and spill clean-up. I am currently researching on the development of superhydrophobic and superoleophilic sorbents for oil water separation and on processes and protocols to reduce process accidents in high-risk industries particularly the oil and gas industry.
