    Biography

Dr Amirhossein Sadeghian is a Materials/Welding Engineer and Research Fellow at the Centre for Manufacturing and Materials, Coventry University, where he works on advanced laser-based manufacturing. He holds a PhD from Coventry University, where his doctoral research focused on laser welding of dissimilar materials for lithium-ion battery modules in electric vehicles.

Dr Sadeghian’s research integrates data-driven laser process development, in-process sensing/monitoring, and quantitative post-process characterisation to enhance manufacturing precision, sustainability, and reliability. His work advances digital transformation in laser-based manufacturing, incorporating sensor-based monitoring, data analytics, and predictive modelling to enable intelligent, data-driven manufacturing environments. He explores the application of digital twins, AI-assisted defect detection, and real-time process optimisation to support zero-defect production and improved energy efficiency.

Dr Sadeghian actively collaborates across disciplines, working at the intersection of materials science, manufacturing engineering, inspection/sensor technologies, and industrial applications.

    Research Interests:

    • Laser materials processing & advanced welding technologies
    • Additive manufacturing: L-PBF, L-DED, etc.
    • Digital manufacturing, AI-enabled process optimisation & digital twins
    • Automation, robotics & adaptive welding systems
    • In-process sensing and real-time defect control
    • Microstructural evolution, mechanical performance & predictive modelling
    • Sustainable and circular manufacturing strategies

    Vision Statement

To advance sustainable, intelligent, and zero-defect laser-based manufacturing technologies that enable high-precision, energy-efficient, and future-ready industrial solutions.
