Biography

Dr. Amirhossein Sadeghian is a Research Fellow in the Laser Processing and Joining Group at the Centre for Manufacturing and Materials, Coventry University. As a materials engineer, he specialises in laser-based manufacturing, metal additive manufacturing, and advanced welding and joining techniques.

He holds a BSc in Materials Engineering (Industrial Metallurgy), an MSc in Materials Engineering (Welding), and a PhD from Coventry University, where his doctoral research focused on laser welding of dissimilar materials for lithium-ion battery modules in electric vehicles.

Dr. Sadeghian’s research investigates how laser–material interactions influence microstructural evolution and component performance, with the aim of improving the reliability, structural integrity, and functionality of manufactured parts. His work spans Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF), Laser Directed Energy Deposition (L-DED), and laser beam welding, where he integrates in-process monitoring with advanced post-process characterisation to optimise processing parameters and predict material behaviour.

  • Robotic Laser Welding
  • Laser Cladding and Directed Energy Deposition (L-DED)
  • Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF)
  • Metallography and Microstructural Characterisation (OM, SEM, EDS, XRD, EBSD)
  • Surface Roughness and Mechanical Testing

Vision Statement

To advance sustainable, intelligent, and zero-defect laser-based manufacturing technologies that enable high-precision, energy-efficient, and future-ready industrial solutions.
