Personal profile

Alan is an experienced and enthusiastic researcher and educator committed to continual improvement in the facilitation of learning, and in health and social care practice through the application of theory to practice. Alan also argues strongly for the contribution of practice to theory and is convinced of the efficacy of participatory research methods, grounded in practice, which he applies sensitively informed by a nomadic postmodern ethics.

He enjoys facilitating critical thinking in students, and has a strong commitment to reflexivity and reflective practice in the workplace, whether as a manager, a consultant or as an educator.

Alan’s academic practice since 2009 is underpinned by twenty years’ experience in the voluntary sector, primarily as Chief Executive of Kingsley Organisation, an award-winning small charity, and also as an independent management consultant. Thus, his sophisticated contextualised application of contemporary and classic management models and his willingness to question and adapt theory to the particular circumstances of management underpins his radical and eclectic approach to organizational studies, drawing on Critical Management Studies as well as feminist and post-structural approaches.

Vision Statement

I am passionate about person-centred health and social care. All of us can take a lead in our care, and too often systems of health and social care don’t support this. I want to help health and social care professionals overcome the barriers which prevent them really attending to people’s needs, and thus radically transform the care they deliver. I’ve seen people flourish when services are integrated, person-centred and imaginative, and I want to spread the word.

Fingerprint Fingerprint is based on mining the text of the person's scientific documents to create an index of weighted terms, which defines the key subjects of each individual researcher.
