    Abbey is a medical doctor (board-certified obstetrician), and a maternal and perinatal health epidemiologist. He has extensive experience working in the field of women’s health in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), Switzerland and the United Kingdom. He has substantial interests in epidemiological research arising from electronic health records, with particular focus on pregnancy with multimorbidity, quality of maternity care, long-term effects of birth outcomes, sexual and reproductive health, health inequalities and clinical governance.

    He is well published and recipient of funding awards and academic scholarships including the prestigious Commonwealth Doctoral Scholarship, Commonwealth Professional Fellowship, Policy Communication Fellowship of the Population Reference Bureau, United States and the International Journal of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (official FIGO publication) John J. Sciarra Prize Paper Award in 2012. He was a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Maternal and Perinatal Health Guideline Steering Committee (2018-2019), and co-edited two WHO global maternal health guideline.  

    He enjoys collaborating with academic colleagues both in the UK and across the globe.
