The route to peace Amnesty international 20 March 2024
Thank you Alan, thank you Amnesty International for organising this event.
It is a great honour to be with you tonight. Almost 42 years ago, when I first heard about Amnesty International. I was then in my early 20s political activist in my Palestinian community in Israel and my city Umm el Fahem,
Then the Israeli military commander of the northern district imposed house arrest order on a group of political activists. The order meant that we couldn't leave our homes from 6 pm- 6 am and have to report once a day to the police station. Then, I become aware of Amnesty when it took our case and advocated on our behalf to stop this order.
I'm honoured to be here and remembering that occasion.
I have been asked to talk about routes for peace.
