This paper is to discuss why cosmetic surgery has been popularised in South Korea. Since the financial crisis in 1997 Korea entered into the phase of neoliberal society. In this context, women have been pressurised to pursue the beauty standard which has been formulated by the neoliberal society. The paper analyses the trend of popularised cosmetic surgery in Korea and seeks to possibility of constructing a form of agency to resist this kind of global tendency.
