The "UK Committee for International Hydrology" (UKCIH) was formed in February 2019 following a decision by the then "UK Committee for National and International Hydrology" to focus its mandate on international issues and the promotion of UK hydrological expertise overseas.
The Committee is an evolution of the UK's Interdepartmental Committee for International Hydrology, which was set up in 1975 to ensure national coordination of all involvement in inter-governmental hydrological programmes (in particular those of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and World Meteorological Organization (WMO)).
The general aim of the Committee is to better coordinate UK contributions to international hydrological and water resources management initiatives, by promoting dialogue between organisations, encouraging collaboration and avoiding duplication.
