Romani Readings: Stopping, Moving and Writing

    Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Off the Shelf is one of the largest and most accessible literary festivals in the UK. Every year they bring the biggest names in literature and the arts to Sheffield. This year they partnered with Roma Futures and together curated a series of events.

Damian Le Bas reads from The Stopping Places (a BBC R4 Book of the Week). The account of his journey to find of the wayside stopping places of his forebears will inform a panel discussion about literacy and narrative for Roma writers. Damian was joined by Rosa Cisneros, a Spanish-American Gypsy dancer and academic and David Kandrac, a member of Sheffield’s Roma Slovak community.
