As the leader of the Special Interest Group in Particulate Matter Filtration Flows in Automotive and Marine Applications, I have organised the first meeting of the group at Coventry University. More than 30 people attended the meeting, including representatives from British Marine, Caterpillar, Horiba MIRA, JCB, JLR, Johnson Matthey and Mahle. The meeting talks focused on challenges facing automotive and marine industries in reduction of particulate matter emissions. The talks included a presentation from one of the key researchers behind modelling such flows, Professor Koltsakis from Aristotle University Thessaloniki (Greece). Coventry
