‘Open Citizens’ is a novel partnership project routed in art/technology and new pedagogies for university outreach and widening participation. The programme partnered GCSE Citizenship students with BA Digital Media students look at how an interdisciplinary approach to STEM subjects might enable active citizenship in young people. Hosted by Coventry Fab Lab, the project used play, speculative design and open manufacturing principles and is about to be profiled by the European Commission as a model of best practice.

‘Open Citizens’ was funded by Think Higher, one of the 34 HEFCE funded ‘National Networks for Collaborative Outreach’ aiming to help streamline Higher Education outreach for local schools, as well as exploring new ways of delivering outreach to meet local needs and priorities.
