Fostering Belonging, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in TNE partnerships through Collaborative Online International Learning

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Description

Collaborative Online International Learning has been part of the internationalisation strategy at Coventry University since 2011 (Wimpenny & Orsini-Jones, 2020). COIL can foster the development of more inclusive and critical internationalisation processes in the form of Internationalisation at Home (IaH, Belen & Jones, 2015) while also supporting students with developing valuable transversal skills and competences for the 21st century (e.g. digital and intercultural). Wimpenny et al. (2022) argue that COIL can also provide a fertile Third Space that promotes EDI. COIL was, and is, being successfully used at Coventry University to also facilitate the consolidation of TNE partnerships, the alignment of pedagogical approaches in the TNE provision and support students on the overseas TNE partner courses with feeling that they belong in the Coventry Group community of practice.

This talk will illustrate how the integration of COIL into the curriculum of courses on English Language Teaching at Coventry University and at one of its TNE partners, the National Institute of Business and Management in Sri Lanka, helped students with feeling included and gave them the opportunity to see English Language Teaching through a decolonised lens, that was both local and global.
