Exploring Visual Cultures, Representations, and Histories of South Asia

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Description

This workshop aims to bring together people working with different forms of visual cultures, representations, and histories from and of South Asia. This cross-disciplinary approach hopes to connect visual histories with a comparative study of the methodological interpretations and challenges of this relatively new area. The workshop will bring together creators of archives (multi-media, digital) with the users of archives, in order to explore the relationship between events, images and the politics of memory. We are especially keen to explore how absences in representation are recreated in the production of those visual histories and memories. Through this workshop, we hope that we can focus on those exchanges between creators and users, their different methodological approaches, and interpretations, and explore the possibilities of future collaborations.
