Description
Invited workshop facilitator. Department of English Language and Linguistics, University of Sargodha: This workshop will first explore how corpus linguistic methods can be used in a variety of research projects, and encourage participants to consider what research questions they may wish to answer. It will secondly consider the range of corpora available and the pros and cons of developing a bespoke corpus, and encourage participants to consider what data sets they might develop or investigate.
In the third and final part the workshop will explore the range of corpus linguistic tools available and how these can be used in different ways to support different projects.
Some tools are relatively automated, but the results still have to be interpreted (so the role of a reference corpus could be important). Other tools can be developed to answer specific questions.
We will explore a variety of platforms as well as at a variety of analyses that can be done using corpus linguistic methods.
By the end of the workshop, participants should have a good idea of how corpus linguistics can be used to answer different research questions.
