Description

I organised a research seminar offered by Prof Nicholas Ryder, who is Professor in Financial Crime at Bristol Law School, University of the West of England. The seminar was entitled "Counter-terrorist financing, money laundering, cryptocurrencies, social media platforms, and suspicious activity reports: A step into the regulatory unknown." It presented evidence how terrorism financiers are able to operate via the Internet and social media platforms, enhanced the understanding of the use of Defence against Terrorism Financing (DATF) Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), and highlighted the current weaknesses in the United Kingdom’s legislative approach. The topics were closely interrelated with the ones falling within the LLM Module on International Law of Corporate Crime so that through participation in this event the Master of Laws students' learning experience was significantly enhanced.
