The online lecture is focussed on improving students’ awareness and knowledge concerning the potential of serious games focussed on improving knowledge and health care outcomes.
It specifically elaborates on: • Positive social, emotional, motivational, cognitive, physical and as well as negative effects of gaming in general • The origin of gaming from a developmental psychology perspective • The definition of games, serious games, gamification and simulation and different game genres • Examples of serious games for (mental) health that have been developed and evaluated. A short explanation of the research methods is given. • Future directions in the field of games for health are discussed
As future psychologists it is important how digital healthcare is changing the field of this profession and which knowledge as well as skills are needed for this.
