The British Academic Written English (BAWE) corpus (www.coventry.ac.uk/bawe) was completed and deposited with the ESRC and Oxford Text Archive in 2008. Since then the corpus and the genre family classification developed from the corpus have been widely used around the world for teaching, learning materials and research. This symposium was organised to share information and ideas about the ways in which BAWE and the BAWE genre family classification have been used. Speakers included Tom Cobb, Université du Québec à Montréal, Mick O’Donnell, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Peter Crosthwaite, University of Queensland, Shari Dureshahwar Lughmani, English Language Centre, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Ursula Wingate and Andrew Drummond, Kings College London.
